I have a Samsung A5 2016 with Android Marshmallow. I googled for some solutions on how to remove apps in background, to save battery, but nothing definitive. I can force an app to stop, but when I run it, again goes active in background without a reason, like Amazon app.
On Windows Phone there was an useful feature to permanently kill an app in background, even if you run it. It just works in the time you need it.

It runs in the background because it's supposed to. Amazon for example is not running in the background for no reason. It's acting as license checker for all apps you downloaded from Amazon, as well a sync service for other things you do on Amazon. Any time you open an app you got from Amazon, it calls on the Amazon app. It is also there checking for updates so it can inform you.
Also, not apps you see there are actually running. A lot of them are simply loaded onto RAM and is in suspended animation. This actually saves more battery in the long run. In fact this is almost exactly the same as Windows PC feature called Superfetch which activates for power saving.
