Help Disable auto lock when you hit the power button?

My biggest issue with the screen, is when you manually turn off using the power button (to save battery life) it automatically locks the phone. If you have a lock set up the and hit the power button, it locks instantly. Th HTC phones options allow you to choose the time before the lock, Samsung only lets you choose the time when the screen automatically shuts off...HUGE ANNOYANCE! Is there an option I am missing? I dont want to have to leave my screen on for minutes to avoid this... :( After a few days of serious use on this phone, this is the major issue I cant get over.

Go into dialer and press *#7594# then enable. This will prevent the phone from locking and long press power button for shutdown.

Thank you soooo much! After upgrading from the EVO, this phone is sooo mch better in all aspects, but this was just too annoying lol. I text a lot and manually power down the screen to save battery life. (I did find a paid app that can do it but am shocked it's not a basic option)

Stupid question, but what if I want to restore it to the original settings?

i just put in the code and got, "Enable to Shutdown on End call long press" with a checkbox? This wll prevent screen from locking when I turn off the screen?

I think I have have described it wrong..I meant the passcode lock (not the slider). When I power down the screen manually, u need to put ur passcode on if activated...

I just setup Exchange Sync for my company's email and they forced me to setup a code and screen time out in 10 seconds. It got really annoying because I would have to swipe the screen then enter my pin to access the code. Then I found this thread, using the stated method above I no longer have to enter the pin as well as disabling the lock screen as needed. :) two birds with one stone LOVELY!!!!

Now I need to figure out how to do this with my company's issue blackberry.

For those that want to do away with the lock completely there is a great free app. It will also allow you to bring the screen back with the volume button as well as the power button.

No Lock for Android | AppBrain.com

The dialer code method described by eristocrat accomplishes the same function, but without the need to have a process (No Lock) running 24/7, consuming resources

But before I discovered this dialer code, No Lock was awesome, only bad thing was any key unlocked it, as the phone was never really asleep, as No Lock is essentially an app that displays an empty screen and pressing any key shutters it to the background. This was mainly a problem with my prior phones physicsl keys, causing the screen to come,on in my pocket

I prefer Nolock because I want the option of long pressing the power button to perform a reboot which you lose with the code.

Thank you for this! I had the same issue as dannieboiz, with my corporate Exchange server putting in some severe restrictions about locking and passwords. This fixed that!

Yes, my corporate email requires the same thing and this trick bypass that. It is also easy to turn it off when I need the privacy.

The code does this too

All in all the code is the best solution for those who are not going to be toggling this feature on and off. If youre gonna do that no lock offers a widget to toggle. But widgets and a constantly running app drains batteries, so unless youre gonna toggle, try to avoud no lock

The code does not allow a reboot. It turns the phone off.

No Lock does not even appear in the task manager or under battery consumption so I disagree it is draining the battery.

No lock appears in running services, not task manager , as youll notice many of the processes dont appear in task manager, and it definitely drained my samsung batteries, but its benefits were too good for me to give it up in the past.

The dialer code makes it so that when you long press power, no menu pops up: the phone just shuts down. If no lock makes it so that long press power = reboot, how on earth would one shut down without a battery pull?

No Lock does not add the long press to reboot option. That is built into the stock phone. Short press brings up the standard menu with the options to power off, airplane mode, etc.

Yeah, no Android I've ever owned allowed me to long press power to reboot, including this one I'm typing on. This is definitely not a stock built-in option. How the power does work: short press = lock/wake screen, long press = power menu

Well I just held the power button for a really long time like ten seconds, and it rebooted.. How delightful! It would seem to save time to power off and on without getting a sttiff thu mb though. So now I know long press to be menu and really really long press to be reboot

It's actually six seconds, hence my reason for using No Lock instead of the above referenced code for the ability to disable the lock screen.

Just like I described above. How's that long press to reboot with the code working for you?
