Disable email stacking in the Gmail app?

Hi, is it possible to disable the "stacking" function in the Gmail app? You know, when you get more than 1 message from the same sender, and it stacks to make it look like a "conversation". I have it turned off in the web version of Gmail but can't seem to do this on my phone. It's so irritating -_-

I got v2.3.5.2 of the Gmail app.

TMB - If I understand your post correctly it seems you were able to disable 'threading' (stacking) of emails by Gmail on your computer. Could you inform me of how you were able to do this. I have been very irritated by this 'threading' and seldom use gmail because of it.
