Help Disable Long Press Shortcut on Home Button

This is a problem for me on and off. I'll be in an app and want to go to the home screen, and I'll press the home button, and my phone will register that I did a long press. When really it is no different than any of my other presses. I try and recreate it by holding it long than what I did before but knowingly shorter than what is required to activate the short cut. I am never able to do it, it appears to be random..

My question is, is there ANY way to disable this feature short of rooting? It is by far one of the most annoying problems I have with my phone, and I am sure I am not alone. All I want from the home button, is to bring me to my home screen... nothing more than just that. I don't need it to launch Google Search, S voice, or Tasker... just take me home!

Short of rooting your phone, you could install a 3rd party launcher, such as Nova Launcher from the Play Store. In its myriad of settings, it offers the option of re-configuring the Home Button. See screenshot...
