Help Disable Music Player Launch From Headphone Insertion

Need a little help. I find it annoying that my default music player starts every single time I plug my headphones (earbuds) into the jack. My phone is rooted. How can I stop this annoyance? I would prefer that nothing happen at all as opposed to choosing some other default app in its place (did this with some headphone app but found it would crash my phone if I unplugged the headphones without first stopping the app I was using).
