"Disable Service" hanging

Newbie
Hi, I'm brand new to the joys of rooting my phone. The first thing I wanted to do once that was finished was to disable unnecessary services running in the background, so I installed "Disable Service". So far, it seems to be effective at disabling services, but it hangs up on the "Wait..." screen forever when it's in the process of disabling a service. If I go to the task manager and kill it, then start it up again, I can see that the service was indeed turned off (at least it looks that way in the Disable Service UI). I thought turning my phone off and back on would help (haha, been using Windows too much!) but it didn't. Do you know what I can do to fix this, or alternatively, another effective way of disabling services?

Titanium is much safer to use than a services editor as changes are easier to revert, plus TB can backup important app data and phone contacts to your SD card and certain cloud storage providers to protect you from data loss.

Being the open-source nut I am, I looked on F-Droid and found one that actually worked called AutoStarts. Thanks for your input! I see that a backup app would be useful so I'll be looking for one, maybe Titanium or maybe something different.
