Disabling Mediaser

Haravikk

I have a Motorola Defy Mini, which comes bundled with various software including an app "Mediaser", which seems to be for sharing media via DLNA.

However, the phone's internal memory is very limited (only about 160mb or so), so I have to be careful with how many apps I load that can't be moved to the SD card.

I've recently loaded a bunch of music onto my SD card, which works great for playing on the go, except that it's causing the Mediaser app's data usage to increase until my internal memory is full! I don't use the app at all, don't have any of its features enabled or anything, but it's still consuming data. It's obviously got some kind of content trigger(s), as any time I clear its data it just starts up again the next time I add a song or restart my phone (by that I mean forget to charge it ;)).

Anyway, I really need a way to disable it completely, as I have no intention of ever using it; kind of one of the biggest issues with this phone really, even though it has pathetic internal memory, Motorola decided to lumber with a ton of apps that only use internal memory for storage

You're best bet is to ask this question in the sub Forums for your handset, as it's been a few years since I bothered to root. You should have plenty of options though, should you choose to go that route.

In JB, there are options to disable most (not all) bloatware programs:
settings / more / applications manager / [scroll to:] all / [select your particular:]App / "turn off"

With root, you have more options like Titanium Backup to Freeze the app... and then if nothing goes wrong, uninstall it.

Well, I'm hoping to avoid having to do it if I can (my phone is still under warranty), but I'll definitely check it out to see what it will involve for my phone, though I think I had a look in the past and my particular version of the Defy Mini doesn't support simpler rooting methods (something to do with the screen I got when starting up with the some of the buttons held down, I don't really remember :)), so it may not even be possible.

Sorry, I should have mentioned my Android version is 2.3; I don't think I can update any further than that (not without rooting at least).
