Help Disabling messaging notifications

I'm having a hard time finding out where to disable the generic messaging notifications. I want to start using HandcentSMS, however getting both notifications everytime I receive a message is getting annoying.

I have tried going to settings -> Messaging, but I don't see any options to disable it other than "force close"

I also tried going to settings -> Sony Ericsson, but the menu is completely empty!

Help anyone? Much appreciated!

Can you just confirm that you have the X10 large?

If so then go to the Messaging app and press Menu>Settings and then scroll down and untick notifications.

I have the X10a.

When I go to manage applications -> Messaging App, I dont see anything to untick notifications after scrolling down.

Only thing I see is:

Messaging version 7
Storage
Cache
Launch by default
Controls
Permissions

No sorry in your app drawer, find the stock messaging app - the one that has the picture like an envelope and then open that and press menu and follow the instructions above.
