Apps Disabling physical back button in android app

If we want to disable physical back button in an app to support functionality of the app.
Can we disable physical back button in an android app...??
Will android guidelines allow for disabling physical back button...?
I want to disable the back button in my app only not for entire phone using my app.

If it is possible, I'm pretty sure the device would need to be rooted but I've moved this to the development section so the guys here can assist.

Thanks for your reply. We are able to disable physical back button. I just want to know will android guidelines allow for that and is that acceptable...!!
