I had a very odd thing happen I had moved 5 or 6 apps to the SD card using the manage apps function on my phone this morning when I turned my phone on the apps that I had moved to the sd card were gone there was a different icon in place of them when i pushed the icon it said that the program was not installed I went back to manage apps function and the app was still listed I tryed to move them back to the phone but it failed so I had to reinstall them from the market now they work just fine again I have alot of PDFs and Docs and Exel files on the SD card none of them were affected I also have links on one of my home pages setup to open up these files and they were not affected so it seems as there is not a problem with the SD card just with the apps that I had moved there.

Anybody else had this happen is this just a freak accindent? how can I prevent this from happening again

Thanks for your help

If these apps were polling apps (apps that sync data regularly) or widgets, they will do this if moved to the SD card. It can also happen if you unmount the SD card for data transfer and then do not cleanly unmount it from the PC before you remount it on the phone.

With my HTC Desire -which has a tiny phone storage for apps- I had to move a lot of apps to the SD card. And I hadn't such problem at all.

With my HTC Desire HD -which has enough phone storage for all my app- I moved the apps to the SD card too (by habit?). And than I had this problem, that after a restart of the phone, that some apps was disappeared, only with the green android icon remainding on the screen.

My solution was to move the apps back to phone storage.

I think there is no need to move apps to the SD card when there is enough phone storage :)

I mentioned the problem here as well. You might also notice that apps you remove make a reappearance.

Now we need an app that will do a commit, so the actual content of removed apps are written over with zeros, and apps that are installed get written to the memory card instead of sitting in some kind of temporary cache. Perhaps an app that unmounts then remounts would do the trick.
