Disappearing files

The tablet is only a few weeks old. I had several PDF files and a couple documents in the Doc folder and now they're gone, disappeared. I've checked with several file manager apps, and I did Not delete them.
Can anyone tell me what's going on? I can re-download them, but I certainly wouldn't want it to happen again
 
I downloaded them via the Gmail app, into the Downloads folder, used a file manager to copy and paste them in the Documents folder. There is no SD card, I have used three different file manager apps to look for them

I used CX File Explorer, X-Plore, File Manager, and two others off the Android market. I don't remember if I deleted the ones in the download folder, I think so, it was about three weeks ago. I was using Xodo pdf reader, if that makes any difference.
 
This has been happening to me since past summer, I've got a Galaxy Tab A (9.7') that I use only for reading. I always have the files on downloads folder but ,after a certain time, there are no pdfs there. Tell me if you solved this!
 
No, never really solved it, although it hasn't happened for awhile. I now keep copies of all my pdf files in a separate folder in case it happens again.
 
Some downloaders have a setting that deletes any downloaded files after a set time.

Move the files after downloading, or change the setting in the downloader.
