Disappearing smells...

One that is not on the list below is HC laden car exhaust. I grew up before all the systems on modern cars that cleanse the exhaust, and I well remember that burn-the-eyes-and-lungs smell. Nowadays if there is an old car ahead of you somewhere it really stands out, but all cars used to smell that way. Ugh.

Anyway, here's the list. And yes, I remember the mimeograph smell with a bit of fondness, too.

Interesting that the "ditto sheet smell" is attributed to 60's and 70's classrooms. I still vividly remember that smell and I wasn't born until '86.

One of my most favorite smells. I really miss it. And real rubber cement, it doesn't come close to what it is today.

The old vehicles smell worse now running on the modern fuel formulations. I don't remember it being that bad back in the pre-emissions days, yes you'd smell it especially standing right by the car but you didn't choke to death following other cars on the road (otherwise nobody would have gone anywhere).
