Disappointing Camera

Is anyone else disappointed with the camera at all?

My last 3 camera phones have been 8mp and each one has had no noticeable improvement in quality. In fact I may go as far as to say the S3 is worse than my old Desire HD.

I am however really impressed with the lack of shutter lag which really helps with motion blur which improves the chances of a good shot and the colour representation is spot on. Unfortunately the images really miss any real detail I could pick up in other phones and there is a lot more noise in the photo's.

judging from the shots in the XDA forum, and in reviews the camera is very impressive.

I have gone from an iPhone 4S to a HTC One X to a S3. The camera on the S3 in my opinion is the best.

I use the camera a lot during the day in various situations from indoors to outdoors to low light and the pictures always come out very well. Yes I occasionally get an out of focus shot but only rarely!!

Maybe post some pics from the various phones to compare so people can see?
I was thinking of doing that in my OP but I don't have the old phones anymore so a 'fair' comparison would not be possible. I'm hoping I could put some if it down to my monitor, but we will see.

When they tore down the phone they discovered the same Sony sensor that the iphone 4s uses, which is recognized as the best there is. One of the things I am most excited about. So should be better than the Desire. By the way OP, all of your pics look really good to me.

That's some tough lighting with the GS3. The boat is overexposed, but nice capture of the bird over the water. More pics please. Always more pics...

Meh just get a professional camera if you want the best :) imho it's a great camera on such a thin phone. I know it's 2012 but even professional cameras are big.

Anything better than the nexus and maxx camera is good for me. I had a 4s before and from the sample pics it looks like the sgs3 takes really good pics for a phone camera.

I think part of the problem with that S3 pick is it's taken from in the shade and pointing to the bright light. Neither of the other two pics have that problem, as the lighting is better in each. That's the problem with not comparing side-by-side pics. No camera can correct for bad lighting. And your S3 pick is taken in the worst light of the three by far, and still looks really good to me.

I would agree there and it does have the best colours by far. Taking the shot in HDR should have corrected some of that.

Which brings me to what I have found, some of my disappointment relates to my use/configuration of the camera. Tap to focus does not always focus, but if I hold down the shutter button this is far more effective.

As a professional photography I would have to say the S3's shot is hands down the best. the other two phones shots are both over exposed. A great way to tell is if we could have them all snap a pic of the same thing with the same lighting conditions. I understand these are all taken in auto though
