Disconnecting USB - simple curiosity

Why does it take two steps to eject/disconnect from USB? The phone says to eject first and then I have to turn off usb. It's not hard labor, but I'm just curious why it needs to have this redundancy.

Ejecting via the PC ensures that the PC is done writing to the SD card. Turning off USB turns off mounting. They're entirely different tasks. Your device cannot ensure that your PC is done writing to the SD card when it is mounted to your PC. It can't even access the SD card when mounted.
