Discreet Messenger App

Currently, I am using Kik as my messenger app. However, when a message is received, the Kik icon appears at the top of my phone (Galaxy G2).

Are there any similar apps which do not put up a notification?

I'd assume you can go to your app's preferences/settings and choose not to receive notifications (in the notification bar or as a popup). I know Handcent SMS allows that, so I guess they all do.

No, you can only turn on/off vibration and sound notifications, and change the LED colour.
