Root Discussion for AOSP Ports

I thought we could use this thread to brainstorm Ideas to accomplish a successful AOSP Port..Wether it'd be CM9 or any of the various AOSP 3D ROM's...

So far we know or I myself can confirm that I have tried three different recoveries..twrp 1..twrp 2...4ext..have s-off..unlocked bootloader but when flashing any ICS/AOSP Roms will result in a bootloop..which tells me and maybe I could be wrong but..we will need a good working AOSP Kernel made for our phone specifically..something about the 3d's AOSP/ICS Kernel doesnt jive well with our v's..I have tried over 10 different Roms with different kernel variations all resulting with the same result..anyone else interested in eventually using any AOSP Rom on their V can use this thread to brainstorm ideas on what and how we will need to do to be successful

No one can do anything kernel wise until HTC releases the kernel source. Usually that is within 180 days of a phones release.we'll just have to wait and see.

You shouldn't need HTC kernel source code for an aosp kernel.

HTC source = sense kernel

There's no source yet for the LTEVO but we have aosp roms

It will be pretty awesome when the source Is released. I really want to try MIUI V4 and ParanoidAndroid from the Evo 3D. Both are AOSP or CM9 based, and they are two of the coolest ROMs I've ever seen. I don't even have the phone yet and I'm already excited to flash ROMs :D

couldnt we sligjtly modify a 3d AOSP kernel in order to just get boot?

Sense Roms are okay and all..but i think we will quickly get tired of of them if thats the only thing were flashing between lol

edit..

i have a good buddy who made kernels for the prevail with OC and Data2ext mods..ill see what he thinks as well

You could but you may loose some stuff like 3D and 4G I think. The best we can do is wait until the source is released.

well with anthrax..you loose 3d and some video playback like netflix..but 4g seems to work okay..so probally the same..lol waiting on source may take a while..isnt htc notorious for not releasing source on time? or atleast thats what i have read

I really have no idea seeing as this is my first HTC phone and yeah I don't care if I loose 3D but I would like 4G/Video playback to work.

Once i start learning the android api's and the system in general(my workload has been insane recently) I will be a doing a lot of coding, I already discussed with mobster if he needs anything coded he can send it my way.

It should only really take me a few days reading to learn everything i need to about android, I just need to find those days to do it, honestly Ive been debating on taking some of my paid time off specifically to learn it.

However until i get that time, I know close to nothing about android in terms of coding for it. The most I have done is create a quick hello world(which is the first thing i do on EVERY platform i work on), Ironically with the android plugin via eclipse, It pretty much automatically makes a hello world, so its about as informative as watching jersey shore....
