Help Dismantling HTC One for repairs, screen/battery replacements, etc

thats not something that can be answered over the internet without any of us being able to test the unit.

at this point, your situation may be unique, and you should reach out to HTC for warranty support or your carriers shop for support.

your answer just may not be lying in wait over the internet and it may need soem dedicated in person help.

much success on this...

I still would like to know if the phone should work without the battery connected and only with the USB plugged in. Maybe someone who already opened the phone could answer this please .

this phone is like many htc devices. check out the M8 forum, the htc evo 4G LTE forum or use those search queries across the internet to help you answer that question.

i suspect the battery needs to be in line for the phone to work.

Bought an HTC One M7 a few weeks ago, knowing that the charging port was in need of replacement, so I did just that. Some days later, my perfectly working power button stops working. My alternative was to remap the lock button. A few days later, my phone is charging and the thing blacks out. I hear my notifications, the backlight on the capacitives work, but the digitizer and LCD are nonfunctional. Letting it fully discharge was the only way to get life out of the screen. Now it has the charging animation in all it's glory.

So my dilemma here is that the phone is in fact functional, but I cannot power it on due to the power button mysteriously breaking. Bought a replacement part and it didn't work. They both click just fine.
I did Google for quite a bit, but no solution. I'm thinking maybe jumping it somehow would work?

Sup T,

any such discussions like yours we keep on this thread.

if replacement did not work, why? was it from HTC or an oem part supplier? was there a warranty on the part?

Hello and thank you for the response.

Yes, I should have mentioned this. Bought from Gadgetfix and advertised as OEM, but I've never had issues with them before. Yes, there is warranty but haven't tried returning since I'm assuming the motherboard is somehow causing the issue. Old button clicked perfectly fine and still does, but just stopped working out of the blue.

button could be faulty. its probably a refurbished button or they just took one out of a non working unit. hard to tell.

recommend to warranty the button. mobo is probably ok ASSuming there is no dirt/debris inside.

I'll try for a return. It's just too odd for it to happen out of nowhere with an original button. I did root and install a ROM, but I highly doubt that could be the issue since it's not even working before boot.

3rd party ROMs are a mixed bag. best to restore to stock with official stock rom when troubleshooting. you can go down a long rabbit hole...

at this stage, nothing is certain. since you have a warranty on the part, use it. if that turns out to not be the issue, it could be firmware related. worse case its the board.

So currently I have a couple issues with my HTC One M7. I probably bought my M7 around March 2013 (release date). I've dropped my phone many times, without any problems, but this time, I have dealt it its final blow. After dropping it from a 4 story stairwell, the good news is that it is STILL FUNCTIONAL. I am very impressed by the HTC build. However, in the process, I have cracked my screen, the glass that covers the camera, and there are now four coloured vertical lines running down the screen. Near the top of the phone, there are around 30-40 vertical lines, with part of it just completely black. Also, suprisingly, the camera still works completely fine, and you cannot even see the cracked lines of the glass.

I'm not a guy who is super intent on getting the latest tech, but seeing as the M8 has come out, I have been considering whether or not to repair my M7.

Overall, my main concerns are these:
Does anyone know if the damage to my M7 is repairable? If so, what is the cost? Is it still worth it to repair the M7 then? I am very like my phone (not many pieces of tech impress me so!) so of course I would prefer to keep my M7. However, if the cost is very great, I would gladly retire my M7.

NOTE: I am a samsung hater. Please do not suggest me to buy a samsung galaxy. (I've had some very bad experiences with samsung products ex) very bad quality and disgusting design)

Sorry about the crappy photo quality (I'm using my webcam).

No one can tell you what to do. its your money.

you can source the hardware and watch youtube videos and smoke over this thread to gain insight on if its worth it to you.

In my opinion, i would have had insurance on it and would file an insurance claim.

I've had my HTC One M7wls (Cspire) for almost a year. I have somehow I managed to crack the camera lens. How tough is it to replace? Couldn't I just purchase a back cover and install it on my One? Or are the HTC ONE M7 back panels different? The reason I ask if I'm going to swap the back panel I'd like to change the color. Maybe from silver to the black or red. Has any one attempted this?

Also I have the low light camera issue where it has a pink /purple tint. I contacted HTC but they told me to contact my carrier. I went to my carrier and they gave me the run around and basically said they would have to charge me $300 for a new device because it was not going to be covered under warranty. Is there anything I can do to fix this on my own?

Thanks

Is your battery pretty much useless, doesn't last for anything anymore? Phone get really hot from battery?

And/or can you barely hear your calls anymore even with volume turned all the way up?

Did a simple Google search, figured out it is REALLY simple to replace the original battery, and I was able to find a replacement battery that was 2300 mAh, original is only 1650 mAh. I can vouch for how simple it is, took me about 15 minutes and I was being very careful. Tools (plastic pry piece and a really small Phillips head and Torx head) and replacement battery cost me about $11 on Ebay, including shipping.

While you have the silver case separated from the screen/guts, hold it up to the light and look at the speaker holes that rest against your ear. If you've had your phone for a while, or use it in a dirty environment, bet you see that many of the holes are clogged. Take a toothbrush and scrub holes on both sides until you see holes are all open again.

Put it back together and enjoy longer battery life and better sound volume/quality.
