Display change while talking

Often, when I'm done with a phone call, the display has gone to another page. I would guess this is from the touch screen contacting the side of my face while I'm talking. It's annoying because then I have to back out and get the phone page in order to hang up.

Is there any way to prevent this?

It depends on the phone, but you may have a bad proximity detector. Your problem is why most Android phones black the screen out when the phone gets near your face.
