Distributing apk files of free apps

So 1 report can really take them down? I've asked several developers for permission on posting the apk file and out of all 7, just 1 replied with a positive answer (one of Trial Xtreme's developers). I dunno if they're busy or they just ignored.

I would feel bad if I distributed an app that the developer wants to be paid for but those are not my intentions.

It's like this:
Write a review for the choosen game, do a video to show how it runs and what it's like on the device, at the bottom put the apk download link (to the free/demo version ofc), below it link them to the market link to where to buy the full version and maybe the developer's website.

And last but not least, a DMCA form claiming the developer can contact me at any time so that I can take the download link down but I don't see a reason for him/her doing that because I'm distributing the free version that anyone can get at the market.

To me, I think linking to the Google Market (play) would be just as well as hosting it yourself.
Even better actually. 1) you save on bandwidth 2) you have no risk of DMCA issues.

Win win win.

Won't work. The OP seems hell bent on the idea of apk downloads to build traffic, evidenced by refusal to believe that his DCMA link won't save him.

I suppose I should link to last year's story about the guy who is now doing 10 years in a federal penitentiary for copyright violations because his specific defense - but I had a DMCA statement! - didn't fly at all.

Not going to bother. We've told him repeatedly it's against the law, but that just made the latest question, how many reports before I am shut down.

If the discussion of proposed illegal activity persists, this thread will be headed for a lock.

A DMCA statement is for honest operators to beg forgiveness in the light of the occasional honest mistake.

It's not about free vs. paid (last time I'll repeat that) it's about knowingly engaging in copyright violations - an actual crime.

And you can't say that no one warned you, OP.

Alright, I guess I'll keep trying and post apk's of the ones I'm given permission only.

My blog with market links = 10 visitors per day.
Other blogs with apk downloads = 100+

Oh well..

I blog without any apk uploads .

Average 800 visitors per day .
1000+ since 2012

Lets add our statistics 10+1000/2 = 505 hpd

Blogs which dont host apk get an average of 505 hits per day .
Statistics is very interesting isn't it ..

Statistics and apk uploads have no co-relation or whatsoever .

The reason of my blog's popularity is I bring the Latest Stuff to my phone almost across the world . Very simple . People dont have to run across every other forum/website/Usergroup . All data in one single Spot .

I see. Since it works for you without apk downloads it must also work for me, I just need to become a lil better at this. Would reviewing games, apps and posting tutorials, tips and tricks do the job?
Also nice blog, it sure seems to have a lot of visitors. :)

And another thing, is linking my blog at the signature allowed or only for special people on forums?

Signature is allowed as long as the link is not spam and as long as you are helping the community.

What works for blog is totally a random phenomenon .
The important point is to keep posting regularly .
You will always get mediocre hits in first two months . they start to trickle only after the third month .

By following the law and the rules ,you dont have to fear any sort of takedown and can continue your blog with absolute freedom which it is meant to be .

As ALostPacket said those "illegal blogs " are walking on a thin ice .They will be taken down sooner or later .

You dont want that .

Just wanted to also say I think it's cool that the OP is here and talking this out. An open mind is the first step towards wisdom :)

Actually it is good mitk0o0o0 confirmed the legality and scope of his action before he publishes anything .

He could have gone and published/uploaded apks anyway but he did ask the questions .

Yes, I was curious about the laws in distributing files that are already released for free from their makers but it seems for everything you need permission, even copying guides and articles to your website.

I will keep on playing it legit by linking people to the market and just incase I will e-mail the developer if they will allow me to post an apk file too, just like how Trial Xtreme dev let me and just watch as those other blogs with all the hard work posting will get shut down.

I was gmod on a forum about the LG KP500 and the forum was always getting paid games and apps posted and I asked the owner about how his forum has been running for about 3 years now without problems and he said the only people that could get punished are the people who post the games, it's in the registration agreement and he would gladly give the authorities their information if asked. His forum acts like a type of search engine in that case.

I learned some stuff now thanks to you guys. Thanks for the help and your quick replies on this topic. :)

Different forums have different rules. If he feels it is an acceptable risk that is on him. If he is wrong in his idea he can't get in trouble for allowing people post warez then he will have to deal with it. I am pretty sure he is wrong if you look at content that gets removed from file sharing sites and sites like youtube due to copywrite complaints.

That registration nonsense, it's them, not my site excuse is exactly the sort of crackdown occurring.

Here's my prediction last May that Megaupload was in trouble, read carefully - http://androidforums.com/htc-thunderbolt/295891-buy-rent-movies-blockbuster.html#post2413835

Where is Megaupload today?

I can give a wealth of similar cases, including a one man operation, same attitude as your forum admin example - he's doing federal time today. All of his infringing stuff was posted by others, he was just the blog owner.

They don't seem to catch everyone and they don't seem to catch them all right away.

Some people get away with robbing banks, but I'd advise against that as well.

I take it that you're completely unaware that Obama appointed an IP Czar and that they are escalating violations of stuff like movie streaming to felony status? For the streamers - as in, users? Or that we just went through an entire blackout day to protest SOPA? Did you follow that or its sister bill?

Lot of people sent me PMs that I didn't know what I was talking about with Megaupload.

I'll just say it - there's a new sheriff coming to Internet Town, and his posse won't be listening to past excuses.

Well thanks again everyone for leading me to the right direction. :)

So far I've gotten permission for Go-Go-Goat!, Trial Xtreme, Market Unlocker, Tiny Flashlight, Ant Smasher and others are awaiting replies and I've noticed a small increase in daily visitors. Thread may be locked if no one has anything else left to discuss.

I see. Can any of you recommend me somone that will actually be up for something like this? It's been around 2 days since I mailed a bunch of devs for the share permission and none replied.

Have you taken a look at the Applications Announcements forum (Application Announcements - Android Forums). There are many developers in there interacting with users here. You could probably introduce yourself in-thread to a few of them and see if they are willing to help you out with interviews. These devs are willing to interact with users here and may be up for an interview for your blog.

Thanks, I'll see what I can do. I'm not really good at interviews though. Not sure what kind of questions to ask.

You can ask them about their apps...or about themselves. Give them a place to talk...Ask things you are interest in and about the OS why they chose to dev on android if they have been successful...just tossing out some ideas:D

Who they are, what their day job is, how'd they get into developing, why they chose to dev the app (filling a niche, nothing quite did it like they wanted it, hobby, etc). I posted a link to a Droid Life interview earlier in the thread. It isn't 60 minutes type stuff, it just gives readers a peak at the folks behind the apps. Maybe "getting to know" the dev through the forum would help you formulate questions for an interview. Things you may want to know about the dev but isn't appropriate in a forum.

I know there are devs in Alpha and Beta testing that are very active with users where you could see the interaction with testers they are going through bringing a fully functional app to the market. Follow along and chronicle their efforts with their permission. Maybe when the app is ready for a 1.0 release you could do a review / interview thing as you will already "know" the dev from a forum perspective and have questions about them that other folks might want to know as well.

Thank you too. :)

Don't know how I couldn't find these results at Google before.

It's all in the search parameters. I used "basic+news+interview+technique" to get the most relevant results. I tried it first without the "news" parameter but I got overloaded with information on interviewing for employment. In any case, we don't mind doing a little bit of leg work for you. What we won't do (or at least shouldn't) is to kick you to the curb because you didn't search yourself.
