Divx Playback on Andriod

HELLO THERE..PLEASE! PLEASE! HELP ME! My server works great, even with its obvious limitations but I do not understand one constant problrm. When I convert an AVI to an MP4 and then copy it to my phone 'video' file, it plays full screen and just perfect. When I link to it with my Gmote from the pc, to play it on the phone, it comes coming up with the error message that my phone does not have the correct software to play this format....Christ sakes the other copy i copied direct to the phone played absolutely perfectly? Does anybody kow how to fix this, as I have 500 movies on my hard drive that I want to stream to this amazing phone!....................Thank you kingly in advance...:D

Wow this could be the first time I've ever been able to give a technical answer on a forum! :D

I used to get the black screen with audio problem when streaming divx from my pc to my 360, luckily i stumbled on the answer in the torrents comments. It could be that the file in question needs its bitstream unpacking or something like that!

I got a free program on my pc called mpeg4modifier and you open the problem divx in it, tick the unpack button, takes 10-20seconds and your divx works.

I'm reading this thread wishing for a nice easy divx player on Android too, I tried yxplayer last night but didn't love the playback quality, it was just ok, though I didn't compress or rescale the video for my desire maybe I should but what a pain, all so i can watch films whilst on flights.

Does anyone know how to easily stream a video over your home network to android, be gentle im not a network guru!?

Omg, I typed all this on my phone, think I need a break! :D

Hi

I have enjoyed this forum since I got my Desire, but joined specifically to say thank you to the previous poster RockPlayer has been a real find, and makes life so much easier for a TV hound like myself watching shows on the go, no more hours of transcoding before the numerous flights I take on a regular basis.

Thanks again everyone.

Hi Discopants,

Glad to be of service, it is a great app isn't it and thanks to the other forum members who found it. It made a nine hour flight painless, now I just need a bit more battery for continuous playback!

ROCKPLAYER! Way better than the XYplayer I unfortunately paid for. With 700+ divX movies on my media drive, I love to put a ton on my memory card and watch at airports and such. Rockplayer for me is smooth, sharp, literally perfect on my HTC Inc. I'd pay this guy like $10 for it. It's just that good on my inc. BTW, mine is beta and its free.

I seriously don't know how it works, but my Samsung Acclaim will play anything in xvid from the memory card. I've just been converting on the pc and saving to the card.

There is a new application on the android market that gives the possibility to play just about any video file on your android phone. There is a great tip here on which one to get for your phone Play divx files on your Android phone - DroidOverflow
That's the RockPlayer people were referring to. I've had it on my N1 for a few months and I LOVE it. I bring my phone to the gym to watch stuff while I work out and it was a hassle to have to use Handbrake to convert EVERY single video I wanted to watch from XviD to MP4 before viewing on the phone. This program works great. Highly recommend the download. Nothing like being able to watch episodes of Breaking Bad on the bike while everyone else just plays music on their stupid iPod/iPhones.

Rockplayer works great. I'm having no problems on my EVO and thats actually using Rock Player Lite off Marketplace. Now i just need a larger SD card. 8 GB just isn't gonna cut it with all my apps installed also! LoL

Mobo player works bets for me. Also has the option to watch with the phone in portrait rather than landscape, which is handy when you're standing on a busy train.

Actually, I like to convert video to MP4 and then playback it, but according to so many video, I think you can use Mobo player because conversion can take long time.

Well, it is more of a trade-off.
Converting takes time and effort, and more importantly, it degrades video quality.
However, the advantage of converting is that you have a compatible video that you can play with any player, and that the video is OS optimized, resulting in low system resource consumption.
