I think this is only affect the person who aren't change the router default user name and password. That mean if you use user name as "Admin" and password as "Password". If you use your own user name and password for the router you shouldn't worry about this malware. Also i think modem user not affect but not sure about that.

Unfortunately that's not completely correct.

It affected computers with or without routers. Having a router connected was just an additional step the malware had to take to infect DNS.It was able circumvent the computers with additional code if it had a router connected.

The malware works it way out after infection and if there is router there it changes it also.

I would hate for some one to think, Oh i don't have a router, I'm safe...
That would not be true.

Once you have been affected you are more prone to have other types of issues.

Oh wow thanks i didnt know about that plugin im gonna check it out now!!!

To be honest, the only people affected would be clueless computer users who don't have AV protection or don't run malware scans. Even on my parents' computer I refurbed and installed Win7, I have it set to do daily scans with MSE and Malwarebytes. Anybody running real-time AV with regular scanning would either not be affected, or would know a long time ago their computer was infected.

The media has picked up on this story now because it can be promoted in a breathless alarmist manner.
:) "Thousands may be knocked off the internet!" ("Thousands" out of 360 MILLION worldwide internet users.)

Somebody sent me the story the other day, and I reminded them I sent them this same story MONTHS ago. It's not a new story, it's just the deadline has finally arrived.

If anyone IS knocked off the internet by this malware, I wouldn't tell anyone. :) Any kind of knowledge or basic computer maintenance would have prevented/fixed the issue. This issue will only affect people who buy new computers, let their trial AV lapse, then incessantly complain their new computer is running slow and has all kinds of popups. And then don't do anything about it, while their computer pumps put millions of spam messages per day, as part of a spambot network. They get kicked off the internet? Good! :)

Oh wow thanks i didnt know about that (AdBlock) plugin im gonna check it out now!!!

Yeah, Adblock (not AdBlock Plus) is the first thing I put on a new installation of Chrome. And note I am PAYING to use this forum, so I am directly contributing money. I just don't want to see ads on every site I go to, especially Facebook. So, Adblock to the rescue!

Ad Block Plus (different developer) is not as good, as they maintain a "white" list of "good" ads (i.e. payoffs from advertisers). The plain "Ad Block" is what you want.
