Do higher android version consume more battery than its lower one?

I want to ask, if i update my android then the battery consumption will be higher than what the previous version was consuming?
And it will be more high making battery backup lower if i update it further more to kitkat some day?

That's like asking if chocolate ice cream is colder than vanilla. One has nothing to do with the other. Sometimes an upgrade will use more battery, sometimes it'll use less. It depends on what you're upgrading from, what you're upgrading to, which phone and who the carrier is.

Too many variables for a simple answer.
