Accessories Do I have a problem with my seidio 3500mah battery for evo?

Hey guys, I just have a quick question, I recieved my seidio 3500mah battery for the evo yesturday from amazon. i inserted the battery and without draining it charged it with the phone off from about 9pm to about 6am in the morning. After turning it on and testing the new battery out with some music to see how it up holds about a half an hour later or less it dropped to about 97% it continued to drop through out the day at a 10x more impressive rate then the stock battery which would die on me in the middle of the day. But im still dissapointed after reading tons of reviews about people running 4g and gps plus other apps the whole day and still ending up with a 70% battery by the end of the day or even the next day. It is now 10pm and my battery is at 47%. Now i will say it did alot better then the old stock battery which was horrible but after reading other peoples reviews im still not totaly impressed. The other thing is that I didnt even really have 4g or gps running for a big majority of the day like other people have claimed to do and still end up with a 70% battery by the end of the day. I did abuse the phone as far as running alot of apps and playing alot of games and music through out the day and have even used task killer when i was done. Id appreciate it if you guys have any tips or can tell me what the problem is.

I also heard that its not good to drain these batteries completly, so if you guys have any tips on charging and when to charge id appreciate that. thanks for reading.

Blizzard,
I picked up one of the 3500mah batteries from Seidio the first month or so I had my phone when the battery first came out. Your experience with both batteries mirrors mine. My stock battery was dead with normal usage by 2pm to 3pm. I start work at 7am so it was off the car charger and on the go from then. The Seidio battery was giving me a good charge into the evening. Maybe just maybe it would last to 11pm. I definitely am down to 10-20% by 9-10pm. That is the best I see from that battery unless the phone sits untouched on standby and not searching for signal. I don't think you got a bum battery. The descriptions of lasting 1.5 days by others seem a bit extreme or the rarity to me. I was just happy to get into the evening.
By the way, I am moving on to the Inspire 4G. That battery is half the physical size as the Evo's stock battery and still last longer on the most part to the Evo's I am nervous about not having a big whopper battery to trade up to. I am still in my 30 day trial, we will see. Hope this eases your mind and does not have ya packing that thing back up to send back, that always sucks.

I have the Seidio Extended battery and get more than a full day's use with 4G on the entire day. If I toggle when I know I'm out 4G range, I get two days.

One thing I have noticed is that battery drain really is just about use. Either my direct use or something the apps and OS are doing. I recently started pushing my email to my Evo and checking my email every 2 hours is noticeable.

When I first got the extended battery, I just wanted to make it through a full day and charge just overnight. That's what I get under even the heaviest use, which includes UStreaming video for 30 mins, ESPN radio for 90 mins, surfing and checkingin on YouTube funnies on 4G all day as needed, making about 30-60 mins of calls, and using several other non-network using apps. I've all but stopped using wifi because it's not as fast as 4G for me.

I just charge overnight while I'm asleep. No toggling on/off or anything special. And if I want to make sure I can continously do things on 4G even more, I just charge when I'm at my desk. I don't even generally pay attention to charging any more since I know my extended battery pretty much stops me from running out of power unless I don't charge overnight. Even then, I still carry a portable charger when I'm out all day, and it gets me through just fine.

Bottomline, it's probably not that the battery is underperforming so much as something else in the actual use is draining power.

I gotta agree with everyone else on this. For the most part when you see people say "I made it through 2 days of moderate use with my 3500 battery" they are usually lying or their definition of "moderate use" is different than yours. Someone told me a awhile ago on here that given the way the li batteries charge that they never truly charge to 100%. They will typically drop for 100 to 89 quickly, but the drop from 89 to 79 takes much longer.

I've tried all of the battery tricks, wiping stats, plug in unplug, all of the others. The one thing I've found that does work a little bit is using the seidio external battery charger. But even with that the best results I've ever gotten with moderate usage (1 hour of talk time, 30mins of games, 10 texts, 1 hour of Internet) was when I got home I had 63% of my battery left. That was after 12 hours of being unplugged. Which is much better than the stock battery.

But I was like you, I thought my battery was bad because I read all the stories about ppl getting 2 days of heavy usage and have 12% left, but I think ppl stretch the truth.

Think I'm on day 5 with the 3500 and so far 1.5 days is what I am getting. I could kill it in one day if I tried my first off day is coming up and we shall see. My off days I can go apeshit on my phone.

I have had my seidio 3500mAh extended battery for Evo 4G for maybe a month. In the begining it was great, but lately I have been having an issue. i will explain. I leave my battery on the charger all night for starters. When i wake up in the morning I take it off the charger at 7am at 100% and by 9am the battery is at 68%. I dont have any widgets running, GPS, wifi, bt are all off and no live wallpapers. if possible could somebody please give me some ideas on how to fix this issue.

Xavier-

The best advice I can give you is buy the seidio external battery charger, and charge your seidio battery in it at night. I did a test and my results were as follows;

When I charged the battery in the phone while off at night and did the "unplug, plug in,unplug" thing, I pulled the battery out of the phone and put it in the external charger and it charged for an additional 3.5 hours before it turned green.

My battery would do the same thing yours does when I just charged using my phone. Now that I use the external charger I get 4-6 hours more of battery life, easily.

So if at all possible definetly buy the external charger. And if not, your battery isnt messed up. It just is what it is. But even being at 68% that quickly, your dropoff will be much less than it would with a stock battery.

Hey,

I have the Seidio battery, as well as a cheap off name battery... to be honest, I can't tell the difference. I bought this one after I bought the seidio..

the reason why I bought them both is so I can rotate them, I have one battery in the phone, when it dies i pull it out and put the one that I just charged in an external charger back in the phone till it fully dies... you get a better charge with an external charger... also if you can, get the phone rooted so you can remove batt stats.
