Root Do I have to be on stock to s-off?

I didn't s-off when I first rooted my EVO 3D because I was afraid of bricking my phone doing the wire trick. I'm just unlucky like that. But the more roms I see out there that require it the more I'm interested. Only, I see the wire trick requires me to still be on the stock rom. What about someone like me who isn't? Is there another way?

Yep, I used Harmonia too. A bit of advice with S-off: you're likely to run into speedbumps and temporary problems; just keep cool and be patient. It's really very easy if you follow the instructions.

Well said.

I'll add this.
This phone is nearly impossible to completely brick, keep calm, and you will get through it, even if things fall apart.

I made the mistake of installing juopuntubear's modified hboot when i did s-off. you don't want to do that. install the 1.04 hboot. then you can "convert your phone into a evo 3d", and you're home free. :-)

Your only choices when doing the wire trick for the Evo V are the stock 1.57 bootloader or the JBear 1.57.5757 modified bootloader and the JBear version is definitely better since it allows you to run fastboot commands like "flash" and "erase" without having to HTC unlock the stock bootloader.

It's very easy to change bootloaders after you have completed the wire trick and are S-OFF.
