Root Do I need a new ROM for root?

I am fine with the stock ROM so my quiestion is:
Do I need to flash a new ROM (EG stock odex) if I am rooting my EVO V? Or can I skip that part?

After rooting and installing a custom recovery you dont have to flash a rom. It's highly recommended though because roms are just so much better.
