Root Do I need to reinstall kernel after rom update?

I recently updated cyanogenmod 6.0.1 RC4 to 6.1.2 stable.

1. Do I need to reinstall the custom kernel that I had installed before, or should it already be there?

2. Do I need to get a completely different kernel because they are custom built for specific ROMs? I can't remember what the stipulations were when I went through all of this before.

Yes re-install. The same kernel should still work.
