do otter boxes leave marks on the phone?

i was asked about purchasing an otter box when i purchased my evo 3d yesterday, its $50 which is a lot for a case but to my understanding it offers great protection. iv never owned one but im wondering a few things about them. 1) does it leave any marks or scratches on the phone if you decide to take it off. iv had cases that left heavy scuffs on other phones. 2) is it worth the money? and 3) im a very big texter all day everyday, does it make it hard to text. im not sure if it would make it hard to reach the outside keys that border the case when typing fast 2 handed?

thanks for any info! its this or zaggs screen protector

Odd, I was suggested to purchase one when I activated my phone as well. Here's what I come up with for your answers:
1) I'm not sure, but I don't think they would, but please, put in your two cents if you know.
2) Probably. $50 for a case, or $50 in insurance to get a new phone? Up to you.
3) I was told that the way the plastic goes over the screen would make no difference in touchscreen ability.

Hope this helps!

I picked one up yesterday when I traded in my hero. Usually you can fine them for around 30-35 on amazon or other websites, but since the phone is so new its hard to find and trust that its not a fake.

So far I haven't had any issues texting and it responds well in regards to touch screen, I find that some screen protectors mess with the sensitivity.

I havent seen any marks on my phone at all, the holster case is a bit ridiculous but considering the size of the phone, compared to my hero its to be expected and helps to protect the phone.

thats great to know! i wud hate to make a purchase and have it scuff my phone, any advice on what otterbox to get? im seeing some that leave the camera uncovered, others that cover everything. im new with them so im not sure there pros and cons

I picked up the defender case for mine and put it in immediately after taking the packaging plastic off the phone.

1. Just took the case off specially for you (don't you feel special now;) ) and not a single nick or scratch on it. Looks like it just came out of the box.

2. I absolutely LOVE this case. It feels great in my hand, only adds a little girth to the phone, does an AMAZING job of protecting the Camera lenses, and gives easily, unrestricted access to all the controls and ports (although the 2D/3D switch takes a fingernail to toggle)

3. The screen cover is one of the reasons I chose this case. I have had no issues with the touchscreen and i text and play games quite a bit. You will forget its even there. And shapewriter world wonderfully!

About the belt holster, no I dont like it either. However I had Seidio CONVERT Extended Case Combo for use w/Innocell 3500mAh Extended Battery for HTC Evo 4G and the holster from that seems to fit perfectly. I'm happy with it so far (and I've had mine since the 22nd :p

I also have the defender case and i will never use a phone that i paid for without one and i nvr have to worry if i drop it or it falls down the steps @ my gym, work ,the movie theater or if the other half decides to throw it like Mike Vick...... It works for my hand size

In addition to supreme protection, I just realized that the belt clip on the defender case also works as a kick stand. It's got two available viewing angles.

I have been using Otterbox cases for many years now on multiple phones. I would usually trim the clear plastic that would lay over the screen because I didn't like when it would touch the screen and it would look like there was moisture caught between the two. I know it was moisture just the way it looked, with the screen on it would disappear. Before I agreed to buy the defender yesterday I wanted to see it in the case. I don't know what they did different but I am happy to say the clear plastic that covers the screen no longer does what it did on other phones in the past. No it will not leave marks. I am very hard on phones and my Hero looks brand new, thanks to the Otterbox. I got 25% at Sprint if I bought two accessories.

mine had a little moisture today, but it went away, will that harm it

The Seidio Active case which is smaller than the Otter is $50 with a holster as well. I can't even stick the EVO 3D into the cell phone holder in my car since the case is so big.

I can't see how it would as long as it doesn't stay there for a long time. I didn't actually have any moisture issues, maybe I said it wrong, it looked like moisture when the clear plastic window of the case made contact wih the screen. It is hard to describe but most should know what I am saying. Not sure if the difference is because of HTC using a different glass or Otterbox using a different material for the window? I am just glad it's gone. ;)

i picked up the defender, and i love it. hmm gonna have to try it as a kick stand with the clip, thanks for that advice.

When I upgraded on Friday, the representatives in the store were suggestive selling the hell out of the Defender. I hated the commuter on the EVO 4G, but I decided to go on and give it a shot (the fact that the EVO 3D only costed me like $22 after discounts helped with the financial blow of a $50 case lol).

As far as this goes:

3) im a very big texter all day everyday, does it make it hard to text. im not sure if it would make it hard to reach the outside keys that border the case when typing fast 2 handed?

This would definitely be one of the cons of the defender that I've had to get used to. The way the protector extends out to the very edge of the screen makes it a bit hard when you're going down a list, like contacts or pics, and want to use the side scroller with your right thumb. I sometimes wind up just using my left thumb to catch the scroller. Also, if you use Swype, hitting the P and circling around the L for a double letter can be a bit difficult. If you use the stock keyboard, then typing it shouldn't be a problem.

Another note is that I love the screen protector that comes with the defender. The commuter's screen protector on the 4G was terrible (shocker), but I really like the texture on this one. Normally I have a hard time swyping or scrolling across the screen when my fingers are a bit wet, but the texture takes away that discomfort. It's also much easier to clean than previous protectors that I've had. I do wish they included a kickstand in the cases even though the phone itself doesn't have one. But overall, I'd say it's worth the money.

I have the otterbox defender case and there is no marks left on the phone.

The case is awesome. Much better than the one I had for my Iphone 3GS back in the day.

I had the otterbox defender for my Nokia e71 a while back and it really scuffed and scratched the whole phone. This REALLY makes me re think getting a defender for my precious 3d. Any reason you guys think this happened? ill upload some pictures later on.

The Defender case by Otterbox has a kickstand, as we stated already. It is the belt clip that doubles as a kickstand. Works great for most of us.

I don't see how it is possible for the phone to be scratched like that while it is in the case. Unless the case was maybe for another phone and it was allowed to move around quite a bit. Even at that it would be hard to scratch it. Any other way this could have happened? Not saying you aren't telling the truth, but I have owned these cases since they first came out. Every phone I have had has lived it's life in a Otterbox case and I have never had a issue like this.
