Do you like/use Google Play Services?

Hey Guys:

We are working on our 4th Brain & Puzzle game and we are evaluating to include or not Google Play Services (Leaderboards & achievements).

So we would like to ask you: Do you normally care about leaderboards or achievements? Do you like them? Are they annoying? In which cases (games) do you consider them to be valuable and in which games you don

Achievements yes, leaderboards no.

Is it much extra effort to include it? I'd probably say it's better to include it so that those who like that sort of thing can make use of it, whilst those who don't can just ignore it.

It would take 2-3 weeks to implement them ;).

It is a Candy Crush type of game, do you think achievements are more important than leaderboards?

I like Google Play and other services, until I see "This app is not available in your country. " or "This service is not available in your country." or "This service is only available in the United States.".

As for sharing my leaderboard, scores and achievements socially, I couldn't care less.

Achievements are nice to have, leaderboard i'm not that bothered about.

The main benefit of Google Play Services in many games is cloud saving.

Been there, done that. :p Although might have a United States IP address "China Mobile Samsung GT-I8552", plus WiFi and/or cellular location still gives the game away. In fact we've had quite a few posts about it from frustrated Play customers, that they can't access the stuff they've paid for because they've travelled to a different country, or it's all in a foreign language with no way to change it.

Apple is not so geo-restrictive with the iTunes Store. As long as you have a credit card and billing address for the country you want, e.g. US or UK. it doesn't care about your carrier, ISP, IP address or location.

BTW this is a cautionary tail regarding Google Play and the international traveller...

"It's easy to forget that owning something digitally is way different from owning it for real. And if you do forget, it can bite you in the ass. That's what happened to Jim O'Donnell when he traveled into Singapore and found that Google Play Books app on his iPad had up and deleted all his ebooks."

Sure they have to be smart to keep the rights holders happy, Hollywood, MPAA, RIAA, record labels, book publishers, etc. To ensure they're not destributing copyrighted and restricted content outside of the their authorised countries or regions, e.g. the US.

Here in China music, TV-shows, movies and ebooks is not a problem, there are other sources(some legal, some illegal). It's paid apps and games from the Play Store that's not available here. There's Chinese app stores, however one has be very careful what one downloads from those. e.g. "Asphalt 8: Airborne" that just might monitor and record all your phone calls or something, log everything you type, steal personal data and passwords, etc.

It's any paid apps or games, in addition many free ones are unavailable in China, e.g. free games by Gameloft. Also there's no music, movies, TV-shows, ebooks and magazines available, but that's really down to the rights holders and peeps like the RIAA and MPAA, that Google has to comply with. Frustrating for international travellers though if they're denied access to what they paid for, e.g. magazine subscriptions and ebooks.

We had a post about it a while back, someone who spent a lot of time in the UK and Spain. He was English and wanted buy ebooks in English. But in Spain all the ebooks on Play are in Spanish and nothing can be done to change it. Same thing for movies and TV-shows. Thing is Spain and the UK are EU countries where free cross-border trade is allowed, but Google and/or the rights holders seem to think otherwise.

I've had no problems using my phone, tab in Brazil. Keeping it registered to the UK

Achievements yes leader boards no

ok you can access stuff while using a vpn. tested it myself.

I connected my cellphone to a vpn software that i use, cleared browser settings. hulu wasn't appearing in Play store before connecting. After connecting VPN, i search for HULU app and download it. I live in Asia

Is it possible to have the leaderboards within a game? I clicked on a leaderboard button the other day, but it was a bit annoying as it took ages to get to the leaderboard ( my phone has always been slow even though it is a Galaxy S3 ).

Also, none of my friends use Google Plus. They are all on Facebook. Is Google Plus a big social network?
