Do you really need a screen protector

I used a Defender case for my S4 and very happy. Battery died and couldn'the find a decent replacement...Just got new S7, flat, and bought the Defender for that as well. Old Defender case's screen protector sat flat on the screen and basically couldn't tell it was there. New one doesn't sit quite flat. Losing a lot of sensitivity. Thinking now to return the Defender and buy the next one down in their line, plus a screen protector from someone else. The Otterbox stick-on screen protectors don't fully cover the screen. Any suggestions out there?

Well I have gone almost a month and a half without a screen protector. I was nervous about not having one but these screens are supposed to be scratch resistant. My phone is in and out of my pocket many times a day. Still looks like brand new and no scratches. I was really disappointed in the screen protectors avaliable for this phone. I don't like plastic screen protectors so I only wanted the tempered glass, those left a halo around the screen. Zaggs new screen protector left the touch sensitivity useless, so I removed everything and going without. I figured I paid almost 700 for this thing and I'm gona use it. I'm through covering up a phone to keep nice just to trade it in for someone else to use.
