Do You Shine Your Tires And Black Trim?

cwhatever

Life Goes On
just wondering if people shine their tires and black trim and how you do it? how often do you do it? after i hear some replies on what people do, i will give you a tip for black tires and black plastic trim and even black metal, that will last 3+ years of washing and the weather elements with out ever having to do anything but once!!!

I like my tires to look black and new with maybe just a slight shine, but I hate the "ghetto shine" look where it looks like you dipped your tires in motor oil. Its also important to clean your tires, most people just keep layering that oily crap on over the dirt until their tires turn brown. I use Bleche-Wite to clean my tires and I've been using Slime shield as a protectant/shine. It works very well, not greasy, doesn't sling off, and lasts for a relatively long time, even through rain. I don't have any black trim on my car, but I don't like overly shiny dashboards, either. I usually just wipe off with the rag after I clean my leather seats with Lexol or Meguiars Gold Class.

yes too much shine is not good, and the bleche-white is great suff for getting all that brake dust off, works wonders. if the dash is too shiny then reflecks in windshield, but polorized sunglasses stops that though, i wear them all the time.

I use brake fluid on my tires. Cheap and works well. I try to wash my car about every 3 months. :D

We only clean our tires when we clean the car...
Maybe a protective coating or two in the beginning, but no more than that.
but i guess that is because we live in the middle of a metropolitan city where it is wuite hard to get your car dirty in the first place.
definitely no ghetto shininess for me.

ok, if you go out and get heel and toe shoe polish, pull top off and empty into container and use a foam brush to paint on tires, plasic faded trim, and steel (yes works on steel too), 2 coats. then can wash, drive in rain, get filthy and wash again and will have a nice shine(not ghetto shine) for like 3 years with no maintance. can put on brand new tires but wouldn't recommend putting on brand new trim. one of my vehicles is an 87 midsize pu and has faded trim and black bumpers and when i did that it looks like brand new. will post a pic later.

interestinjg. The black plastic on my truck (Bumper, bed rails) looks grey. Ive been using some STP stuff, when Im feeling ambitious, but mostly try to pretend it is Black. I'll use Armor All on my tires once a year, and only when its hot out. I soak the tires, then let the truck sit for a while, letting the sun back most of the Armor all off. Seems to leave a nice natural rubber look to it. Tires on my car are new, so I dont touch them.

man, i'm telling ya, that gray will look like brand new, and tires too. it will protect them. i have a company veh. so don't use mine much and i had to buy new tires that looked new after 5 years of only 3000 miles on them. now it has been 5 years and no dry rot or anything. just clean everything first with a non wax soap then paint on and then rewash with wax soap after a day or so. even try a little spot first.

Im gonna try that on my plastic. I hit the tires on rocks, curbs, etc., too often, so Im not sure the shoe polish would help against that stuff. just so Im clear, I out the stuff on, then wash it again? Should I let it sit on there for a period of time?

no, just wash really good to get wax and oils and dirt off. then apply a coat, then wait till dry and apply another coat. then wait a day or two and then can wash again with a wax soap for the cars paint and over polish. that is optional, being some people need to wash with a wax soap regularly.

I can't comment on the shoe polish thing, but that Back To Black stuff works pretty well on that gray/used to be black trim.
