While some here undoubtedly have dedicated GPS's, there are many here that use their Android phone and Google Maps. Maps is really terrific and often (not always) shines in comparison to ones GPS offering. Anyway, known to few using Google Maps, there are "Labs" that you can put into play that without a doubt make your Maps experience even better..

To activate Labs:

Open the Google "Maps" app on your Android phone
When in Maps, go to Menu and then to SETTINGS
Now go to Labs
Now, select the desired Labs you wish to activate

For me I consider "Bubble Buttons" and "Bigger Text" must have
labs. Scale Bar and Measure and Pre-Cache Map are may also be desired by you.

I tried to increase text size and got nowhere, however it did say this stuff might not work. Zooming in works.

Well, I have a Maxx and I also did this with a friends Maxx and indeed text size increases. No, doesn't make text way big but indeed bigger / easier to read.

The only issue I find in making the text larger is that even when I'm zoomed in to max, some of the local street names are no longer labeled.

Good to know that it had options like "Labs" I had no clue it was even there, so thanks for the info!
