Help Documents to go app

Hello all,
Just got my Ascend not long ago and learning all about this android thing. How do I transfer my word documents from my pc to the phone? And what is "rooting" all about?:confused:

To move documents to your phone you can do one of the following:

1. Connect your phone to your computer via USB and drag and drop the files into a folder on your phone's SD Card.

2. Use Micro SD Card Reader to connect your MicroSD Card to your computer's SD Card slot. You can the drag and drop the documents onto a folder on your SD Card. You can also create a new folder on your SD Card if you would like so you oragnize your documents better.

A great alternative to all of this is Google Docs: https://docs.google.com

You can upload your existing docemnets to Google Docs then view and edit them on your phone.:

Edit: I know on the page it says that editing only works on Froyo but haven't had a problem with it.

And about the "rooting" thing you mentioned: your basically unlocking your phone to do more things with it like, making your phone a portable Wifi hot-spot, changing the theme of your phone, deleting bloatware such as the infamous "Boingo Wifi" that uses up your ram and makes the phone slow.

After this your open to many things.

I'd recommend DL'ing it from the market instead of another site. Reason being that you know the version on the market is legit and not hacked to steal your information or infect you phone with any kind of virus/malware. :)
 
Thank you guys very much for all the info you've given me. I think i can go on from here now. Think I'll also Root my phone just to see how that works too!!!:):)
 
OK Dubstep, After I transfer the file to my phone , then what? Can you talk me thru this one. I"m a novice at this stuff.
