Root Does anyone have their Prevail on Boost's "Pay as you go" Plan

althor74

Lurker
I want to get a new Prevail on one of Boost's "Pay as you go" plans, where it costs $0.20/min/text and $.50/dayweb. I don't want the monthly or daily unlimited. I read somewhere that maybe you can or maybe you can't. I called into Boost, asked a CSR if I could switch my phone to "Pay as you go", and after being on and off of hold for 30 minutes finally got him to determine yes I could. I asked him to make a note on my account. Now I've bought the phone, called to activate, and been twice told that my only option is monthly or daily unlimited. I asked them to look up the notes on my account - they verified the notes, but then said they couldn't do anything because it wasn't an option. I'm going to try a few more reps tomorrow, but wanted to ask:

Does anyone out there successfully have their Prevail on Boost's "Pay as you go" plan? If so, how did you get it onto that plan? What's the trick?

Thanks!

Hi, I don't think it's possible since all the Android smartphones Boost has require the monthly Android unlimited plan ( and/or probably the daily unlimited ).....

But what do I know...... LOL ;) maybe someone managed to have the Prevail on a plan like you want........ :)

Good luck

From my past experience, just because a Boost Rep tells you that something can be done doesn't mean that it can or will. Sad but true.

As for the pay as you go, I'm pretty sure the Boost smartphones are not eligible for that plan.

Yeah and you might call back in 20 minutes and get a whole different response. I have had that happen many times on different issues. Ive been with them since 2008, sorry to say ha ha

Yeah, I've been with them since the beginning of 2009. Honestly, I've never had any serious problems with Boost until this year. Overall, I'm very happy with the coverage and what I get for my money. I just wish they would raise the level of professionalism when dealing with their customers. Some of the Reps are definitely lacking in the ethics department. :p

I'm monthly with Boost, It's well worth the $55 a month, $5 extra charge for smartphones but with shrinkage your balance will "shrink" before you know it really. But the only problem I had with any of it was going to a convenient store with a Boost booth inside. The actual "rep" was just another gas station attendant, and he is rarely even in, and the guy that was there to at least take my money got offended when I turned him down for a date. (He even explained beforehand that he had 3 wives within the US and India. 0.o) But it's a good plan if you go into a legitimate Boost facility.

LOL...y not just use a debit card? So much easier... Pay for phone, from phone... Makes sense to me

I'm using PlatinumTel's Real Paygo plan $100/year. I've used the info here to juice up the Prevail and though I'm a newbie, so far so good. Not sure if PlatinumTel has any connection to Boost Mobile but the mods worked on it. It did load some Boost apps that I'm not using but other than that I haven't noticed any problems. I've only been using the modified phone for a couple of days but looks like it is vastly improved. I don't know what network PlatinumTel uses but it works for me. Looks spotty in sparsly populated ares.

To hear about some of these MVNOs you have to live in the area they offer it in. Some of them offer it in a limited area some of them are nationwide but with a limited advertizing budget they only concentrate on some areas and let the others just float. I've heard of PlatinumTel, if I'm not mistaken they have their own (limited) network and roam on Verizon.

Aids10. Good memory you got there. Unfortunately I abandoned that method. I could activate the device on the pay as you go plan but I'd lose 3g data like clockwork. I could not get a whole day of 3g internet without problems.

:eviltongue: Damn was just about to give it a go; did you try Sprint's 11115 PRL?

Also, was that without the web add-on activated? Can you get free internet access thru opera on the prevail like you can on the incognito with PAYG?

Negative on both counts. I did not try the PRL you mentioned. I did try with 6100x though. I think at the time I had the 7, 8 and 9. Plus every time I tried that it was always with the web add on. 50c a day. I almost never used it to call or text. But the few times I did try it worked. I did call 611 a bunch of times since all I really wanted was to see if it was still attached to Boost.

I didn't try Opera since my real objective was to have access to the market and as a portable hotspot to go device. I haven't abandoned the whole thing... its just that I have other things that I need to attend to at the moment... and since my spare Evo 4g is doing fine as a hotspot the pressure to make the Prevail work is that much less.
