I really want to make a text-based game. I'm a really good writer, and I could probably eventually learn how to code, but I figured, why not see if anyone wants to help? (Meaning I found a really helpful site on teaching Java and SDK and whatnot, and after one unit in a day, I'm exhausted, lol).
Anyways, this won't be a regular text-based game...it'll be an RPG =) The players will have an inventory, they'll get to "fight", they'll be able to upgrade their weapons and armor, etc.
A few questions or statements you might have for me...
1) Why would anyone want to play a stupid, text only game on a device that can play games like GTA and Nova?
----answer: There are lot's of people who like to play text-based games (including myself). Think about how many people play Minecraft...(currently 12,199,945 - and that's gone up by like 50 since I had time to copy and paste it in here).
2) Minecraft at least has music >=\
----reply: So can text-based games! We can get someone else to compose for the game, use some royalty free music, or, get this...I'm a music major. I could probably write some music (or at least try). How's that sound?
3) I can code everything...I don't need your help!
----reply: Well, okay. If you're an amazing coder and an amazing writer as well, that's awesome! But what if you're not so great at writing? What if you don't have it in you to write a book in game form (because that's basically what a text-based game is...a choose your own adventure book with lot's and lot's of path's and endings).
4) What about graphics??
----reply: I'm not that much of an artist, but I'm *decent. If you know someone who might want to help, or are an artist yourself and want to help, please do reply! =D
EDIT: For an example of what I'm thinking of trying to make, go to http://www.hogwartslive.com/ and http://www.kingdomofloathing.com/ (People earn turns everyday to go adventuring, but there's still a set story.)
*Decent = If I focus and really have motivation. I'm not that good. My best pieces are modern and abstract. Just saying.
