Does anyone think "the river" was underrated?

I watched the river on TV and absolutely loved it. It was original, eerie, it had good acting...some parts even made me cry. The TV show somehow got a below average rating though. Does anyone agree?

I thought it started well, but by the 4th or 5th episode, I lost interest.
