Help Does chaning to ART runtime from the Developers option make my smartphone faster ?

Ankush Das

Newbie
I just want to know the answer of the question titled. Because I know that the ART runtime which is avaialble from the developers option on KitKat is experimental. Should it make a difference ?

Tbh it depends on the device.
Like on my old galaxy s3 and nexus7 it makes a huge difference in speed of apps opening and even scrolling smoothness.
But on my new phone (Oneplus One) I notice no difference and (I know benchmark apps should be taken with a pinch of salt but) my phone actually scores lower with ART than Dalvik.
I say give it a try and see what you think. The worst that will happen is that some apps won't work but that's very rare now.
Don't be alarmed when you change it and the first reboot takes forever, it will boot eventually :thumbsupdroid:
Let us know how it goes and what phone you're on

Actually the worst that could happen is that it doesn't work at all - I've met ROMs where this is the case (manufacturer's framework doesn't support ART yet but the base OS would let you enable it). Unusual, but not impossible.

So "what phone" is a very relevant question. I'd be wary if it's a HTC Sense KitKat ROM.

Thanks ! I got it changed on my Micromax Unite 2. It worked. Visible performance increase. Cheers !
