Help Does disabling Background Data actually save a lot of battery life?

I use an app that tells me how much battery life I save by disabling certain things. For ex when I turn the display brightness to a very low settings it will display more battery life than if it was at its max.

But when I disable or enable background data there doesn't seem to be any change at all. Is this just the app not working properly or does it really not affect battery life that much?

Background data is not an app. It is a part of the phone's settings. If you disable it, you can save battery life. You should also disable auto sync, to save even more battery life. However, you will have to turn them back on periodically.

I think what the op means, is that the app doesn't register any battery savings when turning off background data. That's the way I read it anyway. If not, then then Tube517 is correct---background data is not an app.
I personally use Juice Defender. Some do not like it but I can set it to disable data at night, and also set it to turn on data every 5 or 10 or 30 minutes for 30 seconds to get email etc.
Just a thought. It has saved my battery but cant put a number on it cuz I've ran it for so long.
