Does enabling data on 2g use more power?

I'm using the power control widget to toggle Wi-Fi, 2g/3g, Auto Sync, and Mobile Data. I like to keep it on 2g and auto sync off unless I need to use the Internet.

I'm wondering if enabling mobile data will use more power even if I have auto sync off and no other data is going on? Would the power consumption be the same whether mobile data is enabled or not?

I want to leave mobile data on in case I lose the phone and I can use a locator app to remote track it.

There would be no difference in power drain if only 2G is on. If 3G/4G is on it would still be negligible as long as you are in a 3G/4G coverage area so the phone is not constantly searching for a 3G/4G signal.

I've measured the drain, and while on standaby, 2/3G will use almost no battery at all. (given that you have a good signal)
