Android Question

In addition to the stock Gmail app, I am interested in adding an email client app to my android phone to manage a non-Gmail inbox with the goal of NOT having Google scan a POP3 email inbox (as they do with Gmail accounts to push relevant ads to us).

Would this be fruitless? will Google be able to scan/read my email inbox on my android phone, no matter what email client I use? their privacy policy does not explicitly state that they can/do

Notes: (1) yes, I know that you can channel all of your email accounts thru Gmail, but I do not want to do that; (2) on the new Nexus 6 phone, the Mail app no longer works as a standalone email client, but instead directs you to channel your email through Gmail

My favorite is AquaMail. Simple, intuitive UI. Highly configurable with lotsa options. And I mean lotsa of options. Great for consolidating multiple accounts in one place. Has some unique features like the Smart Folder, which is basically a unified inbox but configurable so that it becomes much more.

Very fast and stable. Excellent support via built-in help, a user forum monitored by the developer or by email.

AquaMail has a strong privacy statement clearly stating that nothing is stored on any server, unlike some other clients such as Type Mail or My Mail who do store your information. Google will not be able monitor your email!

A terrific piece of software, one of the very best apps of any kind available for Android.

You might want to take a look at K-9 also.
