Does Google Maps 7.x no longer suck?

[trale]

I've held off on updating my Maps to the latest overhaul, after all the negative noise it made and all kinds of features being disabled from the previous version.

Did Google address those issues? Is it finally a safe time to upgrade Maps?

I just noticed - I have 7.60. (I also have backups going back to when it worked.) It doesn't seem to suck any worse than it used to. (Did we used to be able to name the favorites? I can't figure out how to do that any more - when I put in a street address, it stays as an address. Now we need it to be a contact to be a name?)
