Help Does it come unlocked?

I'm always a bit confused about whether phones on contracts are unlocked, and I don't even know what it entirely means. If I get the Note on a 3 year plan with Telus (Canada) is the phone unlocked and am I the owner of the phone as long as I fulfill the contract?

It will be locked. that means you can only use it on Telus. If you wanted to switch accounts to Rogers, that Note would not work for example.

However this forum right here, is for the unlocked version of the phone, which is only available overseas. They are unlocked, and we can then choose if we use Rogers, Telus, AT&T etc.

For the locked version of the phone you want the Galaxy Note LTE forum...

So are you saying that Canadian carriers do not provide unlock codes for their customers/phones as they do in the US?

In the UK you can get unlocked contract phones. My Note and my previous HTC Desire were both contract phones with T-Mobile and were unbranded and unlocked. Some suppliers specialise in providing unlocked phones for contracts.

It goes something like this. (basically you have to pay the full UN-subsidized amount fro the phone - then for a fee they will unlock it for you)

Looks like unlocking cellphones is starting to become a trend. Recently TELUS announced they will unlock various devices for a fee starting in 2011
