Help Does Lag fix need to be removed before Froyo upgrade

I'm probably in the same situation as many SGS owners, i.e. installed the one click LAG fix to overcome the issues with 2.1.

As 2.2 is due out (in the UK) probably sometime in the next few weeks, can someone more technical advise if the LAG fix should be removed and the phone unrooted before the official upgrade.

Additionally, is there any benefit moving up to 2.2 other than Flash? I haven't had any real issues with the phone other than the initial LAG.

I'm on Orange UK, but I don't suppose that really matters?

From my understanding it does because the phone is rooted. But if I'm wrong, someone please correct me as I would like to know as well.
 
I don't know for sure, this is speculation, but I don't think it does.

Like you I rooted my phone so I could install the lag fix. Last week I bit the bullet and also installed the Froyo beta firmware, JPH. My new Quadrant score, while a lot better than a stock 2.1 phone, was significantly less than my phone enjoyed after the lag fix. Which leads me to suppose that installing Froyo reformatted the file system back to standard.

I imagine the Keis Froyo install will do the same.
 
I thought the main benefits from installing Froyo would be for the app2SD and the new JIT engine?
 
Hmmm. Thanks for the input guys. Suppose I better be safe than sorry and remove the LAG fix and unroot before attempting the upgrade when it comes.

Tempest - I note your points and you are right to point them out... (I'm probably just not technical enough to understand the benefits as I don't have any space issues on the internal memory (yet) i.e. apps2sd and as for the improved speed through JIT, I agree that faster is nearly always a benefit, however my SGS already goes like a train with the LAG fix.

I think to be honest if it wasn't for the lack of flash I don't think I would bother to upgrade as I feel this is the only thing lacking on the phone. I can't find anything online comparing speed of 2.1 (with LAG fix) v 2.2 anyone seen anything?

In terms of comparing 2.2 vs 2.1+lag fix, someone mentioned their Quadrant score before after their 2.2 upgrade, and I posted something previously using Quadrant.

But again, I think the score weights are wrong and the numbers don't really give you an accurate feel of how fast the phone is. Someone said that xJPC (2.2) gave them a score of around 974?

Yes. Lagfix needs to be removed. EXT2 which makes the lagfix work also needs to be removed. They mess with how the system works which will affect the upgrade.

Root can remain. It only gives you more control, but doesn't really change anything critical.
