Does my app need auto-rotate built in?

I am having an app built. The developer did not build in auto-rotate into the app.

My question is that a make or break deal for app users for android. Me personally it does not matter. But some people like landscape vs. portrait.

To give more info on the app it is a messenger type app basically that will be a social network.

Thanks.

It wouldn't matter to me personally (depending on the type of app).
I use my phone and tablet in portrait mode unless I'm gaming or watching a video.
I'm sure you'll get at least a few bad reviews because of it though

Yeah, if it was a game or movie that would make sense. But you are right, it still gives the risk of a few bad reviews. But if I get a million downloads it will not matter most likely;)

Some devices can't be rotated, or don't have rotation. Android smart TVs are only used in horizontal mode (unless trying to be clever), and if you got an app that's vertical mode only. Also Android laptops are intended to be horizontal only, ones with built-in keyboards, they're not usually used standing on end. If you app is only intended for phones and regular tablets, that can be held both ways, probably not a problem.

I don't know... I often like to rotate my device to landscape orientation for text input. That could be a big use-scenario for a messaging/social app.
