Does running cheap generic eBay 3.7V battery affect S3?

Assuming that the battery itself is fine other than running at 3.7V (vs. 3.8V OEM), does that underclock the phone a bit or cause any other instability issues (either stock or rooted)?

Thanks.

No, it will not affect the phone. A slightly lower voltage is safer than a slightly higher voltage. It's important to understand the difference between voltage and current. Voltage is similar to the water pressure in your home's pipes, whereas current is the flow rate of the water out of the pipe once you open the spigot, which is a function of pressure (or voltage).

Since the voltage is lower on these non-OEM batteries, there is less "pressure" exerted by the battery on the circuitry. This is a good thing since the phone normally draws far less current than the battery is capable of putting out. Since there is less current needed by the phone than the battery is capable of putting out, the phone regulates the current level to keep it consistent over the life of the battery. This is why, for example, the phone generally looks and behaves the same way at full battery as it does at low battery. However, there is a point when the battery becomes too run down (voltage gets too low) that the phone can't operate any longer. Basically the phone needs a high enough "pressure" (voltage) to push those electrons through the phone's circuitry, which it doesn't have at low battery.

So long story short - no, the lower voltage (3.7) will not affect the phone's performance, safety, or longetivity since the current draw required by the processor at full clock speed requires a voltage at or below what the battery has at the low battery state. Clock speed is function of current. When the current cant be provided at a given voltage, people increase the voltage... you see people do this with gaming computers.

I've got the GORILLA GADGETS 4500 mAh extended battery & it's rated @ 3.7v. It is arguably the best extended battery available & has had no effect on my phones' performance, except for killer battery life! :D
