does the "Read contact data" permission relevant for tablets

A game named "Lightopus" which I really like just got updated.
And got the "Read contact data" permission added to its permissions.
Normally I wouldn't allow that permission but because it's a game I like I'm considering it.

While considering that I thought that this permission may be irrelevant because a tablet that can't make calls doesn't have a contact list.

But I'm still not sure what kind of data this permission can collect so as in the title, is this permission relevant for tablets ?

Why would the fact that a device is a tablet negate the need for contacts? I use contacts for lots of things other than phone calls: Gmail, Google Voice, Google Talk, navigating to their addresses...

Contacts permissions should be relevant for any Android device.
 
Your tablet has access to your Gmail contacts. Well anyway, it depends on the features of the game why it would need contact access. Some games look up your contacts for their emails so they can find if you have friends using the same service, like the email they used for their Gameloft accounts.
 
Well about the other google services that you (UncleMike) mentioned I opened and empty google account for my tablet so there are no contacts there. And I have no other accounts associated with my tablet either. That I think, answers to you as well (chanchan05). Am I right on this one ? Or am I missing something here too ?

Well if there aren't ANY contacts on the phone, its a permission you shouldn't worry about. Accessing the database won't give it anything,
 
What about if I don't permanently connect the tablet to facebook, but from time to time I use dolphin browser to connect momentarily to facebook, will the game be able to read my facebook contacts while I'm connected to facebook through dolphin ?

Not only that when I updated the game, the discussed permission was not there any more. After I installed the updated, I finished 2 more levels and than the game asked for money to get the rest of the levels.

To make everything even worse I have the feeling that the asking for money part is something new that came with the update.

In the previous version the "google play billing service" permission was not present.

All in all I can't play the game any more...

p.s Is there any way of undoing the update ?, some kind of rollback ?
