Help Does the stock launcher allow you to make shortcuts?

For instance, can I set up direct dial shortcuts on my home screens? I've been able to do this on every phone I have owned. Also, I like using the Sound Hound "ID NOW" shortcut, since you can just hit it instead of having to open the app and then hitting the id button. It appears to me there is no way to create a shortcut from the stock launcher, only apps, folders, and widgets. Is there a way?

Just go to the Widgets tray and use the 'Direct Dial 1x1' widget - it will them ask for a contact entry and you can place that on any screen.
