Does this app exist?

Hi all,

I am currently looking to buy my first android smartphone.

Please do not laugh at me because I am poor and I did not have the money to buy one before.

I was looking for some advice about android smartphones since I do not know much about these devices and I have registered on the forum because I think that this is the best forum out there for advice about android smartphones.

Could someone please tell me whether:

1) An android smartphone can read/edit excel files
2) An android smartphone can communicate with my PC to get an excel file from my PC
3) An android smartphone does have an alarm app which can read and save 'time values' from the excel file on the phone (assuming that the excel file can be transferred from my PC to the phone) without me having to do input the time values manually in the alarm app?

Thanks for reading :D

Regards

1) Yes
2) Yes
3) Yes there is an alarm, but I don't really know what you're asking adter the alarm part. Lol

Hi guys,

Thanks for your replies.

If I have an agenda with the times shown below in an excel sheet on the phone.

Is it possible to create alarms on the alarm app of the phone for each time in the excel sheet below without manually inputting each values?

Is there an automatic method of inputting these values in the alarm app? I badly need a way of inputting the times automatically in the alarm app because it will take a lot of time if I have to input the times in the alarm app manually...:(

So, if I understand it, your problem is not the setting up of new appointments, but the transfer of an existing large schedule from an Excel file on PC to your new phone.

Excel files can be read on Android by a couple of 'Office' apps (Kingsoft, Polaris, etc.). And Google Calendar (there are probably more) can be set up to sound alarms, reminders, etc. So it would be a matter of transferring the contents of that Excel spreadsheet into Google Calendar.

From what I read a Tasker 'profile' should be able to do that. But I don't have experience with Tasker so others will be in a better position to tell you about it.

Thanks for your reply Alvarez.

Yes, my problem is transferring an existing schedule from an Excel file on my PC to my phone.

I have had a look at Google Calendar and I can see that it does allow you to upload a .cvs file which will then be populated in the Calendar. After I create the agenda on an excel worksheet on my PC, I can convert it to .csv format and upload it to Google Calendar. The times on my agenda will then be transferred to Google Calendar.

However, the problem is that I have to constantly connect to the internet to check my schedule. What if I have a connection problem?

Also, the only notifications I can see is via email or pop-up only. I am interested in turning my phone alarm on for each times on my agenda, which seems impossible with Google Calendar...

Hi jlattal, you hit the jackpot finally. A lot of US and Europe users take connectivity for granted but do they know in Asia certain parts, connectivity is not that stable. This is one area where some app developers overlook.

As for your needs, you may need to look hard enough for apps that still work WITHOUT connectivity. Possibly an app that duplicate Google Calendar feature but work as stand-alone.

Did you explore further if Google Calendar support off-line mode?

Google Calendar has reminders that ring and/or vibrate the phone. I've never seen an option for email. Once you start using Calendar you will be glad to lose Excel. There are many apps that work with Calendar. I use Android Agenda Widget.

Are there similar apps like Google Calendar which you can install on your phone and which does not need connection to the internet?

Even with Google Calendar offline you need to connect to the Internet sometimes...and this means that I have to invest extra money in Wi Fi connection

Huh? I don't know about where you live, but in north America, Europe, and Japan at least, afaik, devices basically have WiFi. All of them. And it costs more to have a device that also has mobile network connectivity (2G, 3G, 4G, GPRS, etc.). Not the other way around.
