Does TMO know that I'm using wifi hotspot?

I have an LG Optimus 2x (G2X) and T-Mobile unlimited data. I sometimes use the wifi hotspot when I'm using my computer and there is no wifi available. T-mobile charges 14.99 for this service\month, but I use it alot and I'm never charged. Do they know I'm using it, or not? Is there some threshold I must meet before they start charging me? Are there apps that I can use so TMO won't know I'm using it? TEACH ME! Thank you.

Yep they know.
Any time you access the web their system shows the mac address of the hardware doing it. The mac address of your PC will be included when you use WFHS. They know but since you have not gone over your limit they may not be saying anything. Once you do go over the limit they may be calling.

This is a huge benefit. If tmo keeps giving this away, which they all should, it could be a major selling point for them to draw new customers. Heck it should be free away. If you use your data, who should care how you get there.

That's funny cause I have the g2x on a $50 a month pre-paid plan an I use the portable hot spot all the time. How could they charge me when I pre-pay?

Amen to that! Charging you twice is really double-dipping on the same data. Just like charging both the caller and the callee for a phone call or text. Two people paying for the same data. On landlines only the caller pays.

In Europe you don't pay for incoming text messages. That's the way it should be everywhere, it's very annoying to pay for incoming spam.
