Root Does Towelroot work?

It worked on a friend's S5 for Us Cellular and for my S5 for Sprint. I had already tripped knox but he had not. It did not trip Knox on his phone as it says. We are now both using it with no issues and I have used it on many other phones I have rooted since. its pretty awesome to use and so simple!!

Does my bootloader have to be unlocked? I just bought this phone and have no clue how to root it lol
 
you go to towelroot.com on your phone and follow the instructions its super easy I believe I clicked on the logo then 'make it rain' and poof ROOTED. Easiest way to root with no experience

Ok i did it . It also said Knox was detected and if i wanted to disable it in SuperSU is that normal?
 
Yep I know I didn't disable it but I had previously tripped it so I wasn't terrible concerned. Keep in mind that while towelroot won't trip Knox some other mods can if you are terrible concerned with it. I personally used Titanium Backup and just completely deleted Knox from my phone. Again though, I had already tripped it so my warranty was already void with Samsung. You should be able to do whatever you want with your root now.
 
i tried on my metro gs5 awhile ago it fails. this was after the june update.
UPDATE......works now!
 
I'm trying to get my wifi tether going now that I have root. having a little trouble making it work the way I had on my metro gs4 with "wifi tether router"
UPDATE: the app was updated 7/22 and now have tether working!

Nice, now you have free tethering :eek: i know on metro's $60 plan you cant tether it sucks.
 
Yup, one of the main reasons I root my phones. I'm on the road all the time and I use my phone to tether my TF700T tablet with my mapping system on it daily for 10-13 hours straight
Tether is a must!
 
Does Anybody know how i could get software updates? Since im rooted i guess i cant update my software what if i unroot using SuperSU's Full Unroot will that work to get updates?
 
I've heard that using towelroot you have to use Odin to go back to original stock in order to get OTA updates...

If you gained root through flashing recovery, then you can do the full unroot through supersu, see if that works and if it doesn't work then you're gonna have to flash stock recovery... or also can be done with Odin full stock
 
If you used towel root then you will still be able to receive ota updates. If you used another method you will need "triangle away" and use "supersu" to unroot, and last you will need to reset the phone to stock.

I used towelroot, i tryed to check for an update and it just says that i have modified it and i have to try samsung kies i tryed that and it says i have the latest firmware but im not sure.
 
Sorry it looks like triangle away is lacking support for our device, I haven't used it since my s4, looks like much hasn't changed, sorry for the mislead.
