Does Wifi Hotspot use power when not in use?

funkylogik

share the love peeps ;)
Just wondering, can the hotspot be left toggled On and it will only use battery while someones connected to it?

I'm not sure, but I assume it would, as it needs to keep the signal active so other devices can connect to it. Just as having the wifi on, although not much, drains the battery.

Thanks boyz
I was considering finding out how to remove the hotspot icon from statusbar but its better having it there so i remember to turn it off :)

The tethering use as much power as you would use while surfing the internet, minus the screen illumination, so it is quite energy efficient. And when no one is connected to it for a certain period of time, it automatically turns itself off to conserve the battery.

I have been using it fairly often to run tablets, using my phone's data plan, and I can't complain about the battery life much. Unless, you are on 4G, which is more resource consuming than standard 3G/H+, then I suppose, it could be a battery hog.
